David James Pelzer was born in California on December 29, 1960. The family situation he was born into, however, was not even close to perfect. His father died early in his life and his mother abused him to such a degree that his case became the worst case of child abuse in the history of California. Despite attending public schools, his teachers never contacted the police regarding possible abuse until he was 12 years old. This meant that Dave Pelzer suffered extreme abuse from the hands of his own mother for at least 8 years if not more. Once the police were notified Pelzer was removed from his home and then sent to live in foster homes until the age of 18. During this time period Dave was able to overcome some of his mental anguish and fear and he became determined to educate the world.
Today, at 46 Dave Pelzer has written many New York Times Bestsellers, travels the country promoting understanding, resilience, and inspires the individuals who listens to him speak. Pelzer is also the first American to ever win the “Outstanding Young Persons of the World Award.” Although an entrepreneur making money from his history, he is a man that overcame abuse and is inspiring others out there that they do not have to suffer in silence and that they too can overcome.
